Chatting over a cuppa and watching the buzzards flying high above the office we thought we would do ‘A day in the life of…’a member of staff at NE.
Each job role is varied and flexibility is key as there are so many elements to running and maintaining an 11 acre site.
Jo’s account of a typical day…
Animal husbandry – From collecting eggs from the chickens, Maud, Camilla, Maggie and Emily to checking Popcorn and George our resident goats are behaving themselves.
Day to day – There are multiple things going on at any one time ranging from laundry collection, goods deliveries , replacing breakages in cottages – it is always a varied working day at Nutley Edge!
Customer engagement – A favourite part of my job is dealing with enquiries over the phone and the plethora of emails requesting information on all manner of things from changing holiday dates, ideas on what to do locally, and recommendations on where to shop or eat out.
The boss needs coffee…the housekeeping team need more supplies…
Health and Safety -Things may need fixing which must be reported to Cliff our handy person so he can add to his To-do list.
The day is full of all kinds of unexpected situations which need dealing with, so it’s important to be aware of what’s going on around the site.
At the moment, we’re busier than ever taking enquiries from past guests, potential new guests, and booking agents in relation to their clients holidaying somewhere in the UK they may have never visited before due to cancelling trips abroad, so it’s a great opportunity to talk to people about what’s on offer here in this part of the East Sussex countryside for a stay-cation.
I really enjoy meeting and greeting our guests on site in person too (socially distanced, of course.) and can’t wait to welcome the return of our activity breakers.
No two days are the same here, as there are often several tasks to be worked on at any one time- multitasking is crucial!
One thing always remains though, and that’s the stunning view from our office overlooking the beautiful grounds.
I feel very fortunate to work here.
